Sous le silence gronde le monde

After difficult childhoods and family breakdown, six teenage girls try to rebuild their lives in a place called “La Promesse” ("the promise"): a warm and lively Provençal house, inhabited on a daily basis by its director, Padma. Over the course of nearly two years, the film pays close attention to their words, their silences, their crises and moments of grace, both in private and in their communal life. Their names are Kim, Nadji, and Hana. The camera focuses particularly on Hana, who is approaching 18 and will soon have to leave the house. Can this community life give these young girls the stability and energy they need to get by? Will they manage to overcome their inner demons? How can they glimpse the future when the present is so fragile?
